The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE) has announced a webinar discussing the aid program that aims to promote feasibility studies of geothermal in Spain. The relevant details of the webinar are as follows:

Webinar: Presentation of the aid program to promote feasibility studies for deep geothermal energy in Spain

Date: Tuesday June 13, 2023.

Time: 12:00 (CET Time, Madrid).

Registration form: LINK webinar.

Deep geothermal energy, a form of renewable energy, which is extracted from the heat stored inside the earth, has great potential in Spain. Notable regions include the Canary Islands.

Within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, the IDAE has launched this line of aid with the purpose of promoting exploratory studies and in-depth research surveys. The main objective of these studies is to quantify the geothermal resource in the areas with the greatest potential in Spain.

The successful completion of these studies would pave the way for the development of the first deep geothermal projects for the production of electricity in Spain.

The webinar program will feature the participation of leading experts in the field of geothermal energy. Among them is Víctor Marcos, director of Renewable Energies and Electricity Market at IDAE, who will welcome and open the event. In addition, Celestino García de la Noceda, responsible for Geothermal Research Projects at the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME), will present the potential of deep geothermal energy in Spain.

The head of IDAE’s Department of Hydroelectric, Geothermal and Environmental Energy, Carmen López Ocón, will be in charge of presenting the aid program to promote feasibility studies of deep geothermal energy in the country.

The webinar will conclude with a space for questions and answers, where attendees will be able to interact with experts and clarify their doubts about the call for aid and the potential of deep geothermal energy in Spain.

With this event, the IDAE seeks to promote research and development of deep geothermal energy as a source of energy in Spain, thus contributing to the diversification of the country’s energy system.
