A group from Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) recently made a working visit to France to see the geothermal direct use projects in Paris and explore partnerships with French companies for geothermal development in Indonesia. The group was received by GEODEEP, the Association of French Geothermal Companies.

“We express our highest appreciation to GEODEEP and invite all companies under its association to jointly collaborate in geothermal development so that it brings great benefits to both parties,” said Hartanto Wibowo, the Director of Corporate Planning and Business Development of PLN.

“This meeting and visit reflects how PLN wants to develop sustainable geothermal technology that has been proven in this place. For this reason, PLN cannot be alone. Hopefully this meeting can provide mutual benefits,” added Hartanto.

A month ago, PLN announced issued an invitation for companies for strategic partnerships aimed at the exploration, exploitation, and utilization of at least nine Geothermal Working Areas (WKPs) in Indonesia.

For his part, GEODEEP Vice President Sylvain Brogle welcomed PLN and hopes that GEODEEP can help Indonesia to further develop geothermal technology. “We are proud to be able to meet with PLN to encourage the development of geothermal technology in Indonesia. Companies under our auspices can help Indonesia to decarbonize and at the same time support the government’s efforts to develop geothermal in Indonesia,” said Brogle.

As part of the visit, the group was given a tour of the geothermal heating project in the populated area of Geothermie de Bagneux in Paris, France. Since the projects is located in a densely populated area of Paris, it is in managed in a way that protects the environment and the surrounding community. Through a 12-kilometer pipe network, the project supplies geothermla heating to 9,500 residential homes in Bagneux and Chatillon in the Greater Paris Area.
