Japanese industrial group Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Engineering, Ltd. (MHIENG) is providing its carbon capture technology and process design package (PDP) for a natural gas plant in Casalborsetti, in Northeast Italy.

Italian energy company Eni S.p.A is implementing the Carbon dioxide Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) project at its Ravenna petrochemical site. The power station consists of two production sections fed by natural gas.

Phase one of the project will capture approximately 25,000 tons of CO2 per year from the turbo compressor exhaust operating at the natural gas plant.

The agreement with Eni marks MHIENG’s entry into the Italian market and will see the company provide licensing for its carbon capture technology, which captures the CO2 contained in flue gas by a process of chemical absorption using the proprietary KS-1TM solvent.

MHIENG will provide its carbon capture technology through NextChem S.p.A., green chemistry-dedicated subsidiary of Marie Tecnimont Group.

According to MHIENG the project aligns with its strategic focus of developing CO2 reducing technology and proprietary technologies to protect the global environment.
