Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), a lithium-ion battery manufacturer, will be making its official debut in the United States with the premiere of its energy storage systems (ESS) solutions at Solar Power International 2019. CATL is leveraging its leadership in battery innovation and safety and developing new partnerships with U.S. clients to distribute comprehensive solutions, and ultimately provide power for the sustainable future.

CATL is best known as one of the largest manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) in the world; and has a portfolio of high-profile, multinational clients including BMW, Volkswagen, Ford and GM. The company’s battery technologies, including ESS, are renowned for their long battery life, environmental adaptation, high system energy density and safety.

CATL will be introducing its reliable ESS solutions at SPI for the first time by showcasing its battery and rack product lines. CATL’s current plan is to build new partnerships with U.S. integrators, who will be using its ESS products to assemble for large-scale renewable-energy power stations or industrial/home energy storage, providing better localization and higher efficient service.

CATL will present a selection of its ESS solutions, including wide range battery cells and rack and residential energy storage products at its booth No. 2519:

The new generation of cell and rack: the new generation product of CATL’s ESS solution features newly upgraded energy density and up to 20 years of service life. Equipped with efficient air-cooling systems, the temperature of CATL ESS product is able to be controlled stably and precisely, and energy consumption could be saved by 30%. Different product sizes and capacities will be available for flexible application.

Residential energy storage system: CATL has developed two residential energy storage products with 100Ah battery cells, which are suitable for various sizes of storage. The product is designed for frequent and high current charge and discharge; and is equipped with smart computing for its battery management systems (BMS) as well as good interface with PCS.

“There is an increasing demand for renewable energy worldwide and the demand for energy storage infrastructure has increased with it,” Tan Libin, Vice President for the Energy Storage Business Unit of CATL said. “This is especially true in the U.S., and we look forward to providing its energy companies and consumers highly tailored, safe, and reliable ESS solutions.”

CATL products use the lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry system, which features exceptional cycle life and reliability. Its products undergo more than 270 testing items on batteries for fires, vibration, falling, and other hazards as well as simulating lifelong working conditions to test durability and performance. CATL also invests heavily in systemic design to ensure its products are safe and reliable. Its multi-level safety protection design, including material optimization, product design, manufacturing, and after sales, ensures system integrity and mitigates safety risks for application.
