Bechtel to Offer FEED Services for Power Plant in Vietnam

Bechtel has secured a contract from Singapore’s Delta Offshore Energy (DOE) to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) services for a 3,200MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Vietnam.

Located in Bac Lieu province, approximately 250km south of Ho Chi Minh City, the CCGT plant is equipped with four single shaft units of H class gas turbine technology.

Bechtel Asia Pacific Infrastructure general manager Scott Osborne said: “This power plant is a game-changer for the Bac Lieu province.

“We want to make a difference in supporting Mekong Delta and Vietnam by creating jobs and training, working with local businesses, and providing new opportunities for those in the region.”

The power plant is expected to support the industrial base expansion in South Vietnam.

In the coming years, the Bac Lieu region is to become an industrial hub featuring modern factories and key infrastructure such as roads, bridges, schools and hospitals.

Delta Offshore Energy co-founder and managing director Bobby Quintos said: “Bechtel is a premier engineering, procurement, construction and project management company for large-scale infrastructure projects like our 3,200MW power plant.

“Their appointment assures Delta and the country of Vietnam a first-class power plant that will be reliable for the next 25 years.”

DOE is also conducting FEED for the offshore receiving terminal. It is currently negotiating the power purchase agreement terms with Vietnam Electricity Authority and implementing site preparation works.

Once the deal is finalised, Bechtel and DOE are looking forward to a smooth transition into the engineering, procurement, and construction of the project.

Earlier this year, Bechtel and Hexicon decided to partner for large-scale demonstration projects in the UK.

The two companies first plan to demonstrate a 35MW-40MW floating wind project and focus on bringing the technology to the market.
