KHNP Lands Orders to Supply Equipment to Romanian Nuclear Power Plants

Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced on May 27 that it has been selected as the final supplier in the UPS Voltage Stabilizer Supply Project for Chernaboda Nuclear Power Plant of Societatea Nationala Nuclearelectrica (SNN) in Romania.

KHNP and small and medium-sized Korean companies landed the project to supply about US$300,000 worth of equipment and materials through cooperation. The former will be in charge of project management and quality control while the latter will be tasked with designing and producing equipment and materials.

The items ordered this time are the main facilities of an uninterruptible power system, a key nuclear power plant system. They require a high level of quality management. KHNP expected that it will be able to continue to make supply deals in the future as periodic replacements are needed during the operation of nuclear power plant operations.

KHNP also won a project to supply equipment for the measurement of nuclear materials in reactors and a feasibility study on a storage facility for nuclear waste from Romania in 2020 for. By receiving a series of orders, KHNP has established itself as a major supplier in Romania’s nuclear power plant market. In addition, the company is expected to gain strong momentum in taking orders for projects such as tritium removal facilities and nuclear waste storage facilities in the future.
