The proposed LNG project includes a power plant with a total capacity of 9600 megawatts, located in Soc Trang province, a southern Vietnamese province in the Mekong Delta.

Millennium Energy Vietnam requires an area of 200 hectares to develop the plant. The construction is planned to be implemented in two phases.

The company sought permission from Soc Trang provincial People’s Committee. It also committed to using modern equipment and ensuring safety for the environment.

According to the local media, the province will organise a site visit after which Millennium will build a detailed plan for the province to submit to the government for approval.

If build, this would be the largest LNG project in the Mekong Delta region, three times larger than the plants in Bac Lieu and Long An provinces.

Earlier this month, the neighboring province of Bac Lieu had granted Delta Offshore Energy land approval for building its LNG-to-Power project.
