IEA Awarded Wind Farm Project in the Jayhawk State

Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives has been awarded a $70 million contract to construct a 190-megawatt wind farm in southeast Kansas. Apex Clean Energy, a developer of utility-scale wind and solar farms, awarded the project to IEA Constructors, a subsidiary of IEA.

Work on the Jayhawk Wind Farm began last month and is expected to be completed in late 2021. The project includes 70 wind turbines.

“The project site for the Jayhawk Wind Farm is ideal,” said Chris Hanson, IEA’s executive vice president of Renewable Energy. “With high-voltage power lines already in place and accessible highways that will reduce the project’s need for new infrastructure.

IEA says Kansas is an “ideal place” for wind construction. The American Clean Power Association says the state ranks fifth in the nation for wind power capacity.
