South Korea’s DSME Bags Orders for 6 LNG Carriers

16 Oct 2020  by Kallanish Energy

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has bagged two new orders to deliver six liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The company said in a security filling earlier this week the two contracts are worth 2 trillion won ($1.7 billion). The deals are subject to clients meeting certain undisclosed conditions, DSME added, without providing details.

Three LNG carriers will be delivered at the end of July 2023, and another three by the end of December that year. DSME only said they are for “European” ship owners, prompting some to speculate the orders were from Russia’s Novatek.

So far this year, DSME has secured $3.3 billion in orders for 13 newbuild LNG carriers. The No. 2 shipbuilder in South Korea is targeting an order book of $7.2 billion this year.
