Top 10 Nuclear Power Plants in the World

21 Sep 2020  by World-Energy

A nuclear power plant is a thermal power plant that uses nuclear reaction as a heat source. Like other thermal power plants, it uses heat to drive a steam turbine engine and connect it to a generator to generate electricity. According to a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, as of 2018, there were 450 nuclear power plants operating in 30 countries worldwide. In 2016, French nuclear power accounted for 72.3% of the country's electricity generation.|

01.KORI Nuclear Power Plant

The Kori Nuclear Power Plant is located near Busan, South Korea. It is the largest nuclear power plant currently operating in South Korea and the world.

The Kori Nuclear Power Plant was built in 1972 and currently has six nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of 7,489 MW.

02.Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant

Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant is the first nuclear power plant built in China and is located in Qinshan Town, Haiyan County, Zhejiang Province.

The assembled capacity of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant Phase I was 300 MW and was connected to the grid in 1991. Qinshan Phase II 4 units have a total capacity of 2,400 MW, and they will be connected to the grid in 2011. Qinshan Phase III 2 sets of assembled machines have a total capacity of 1,400 MW, and they were connected to the grid in 2003.

Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Station is an expansion project of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant Phase I, about 600 meters from the reactor of Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant Phase I Project. Fangjiashan No. 1 and No. 2 were built from 2008 to 2015, with a stand-alone assembly capacity of 1,000 MW. So far, all 9 units of Qinshan Nuclear Power Base have been put into production for power generation, with a total installed capacity of 6,546 MW. It has become the nuclear power base with the largest number of nuclear power units, the most abundant reactor types, and the largest installed capacity in mainland China.

03.Bruce Nuclear Power Plant

Bruce Nuclear Power Plant is located on the east bank of Lake Huron in Ontario, Canada, and is the largest nuclear power plant in North America.

The Bruce Nuclear Power Plant was constructed in phases between 1970 and 1987, with a total of eight nuclear power plants with a total installed capacity of 6,430MW.

04.Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant

Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant is located in Dongping Town, Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province, China. It is the second nuclear power base of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group in Guangdong Province. A total of six nuclear power generating units have been constructed at Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station.

The first phase of the project: the first unit Yangjiang No. 1 to 4, constructed from 2008 to 2017, with an installed capacity of 1000 MW; the second phase of the project: Yangjiang No. 5 and No. 6 were constructed from 2013 to 2019, with installed capacity Both are 1000 MW. The total installed capacity is 6000MW.
